Noel Clarke Backs Lynch's Road
With a CV that reads actor, director, writer, three feature films under his belt and a BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award, Noel Clarke is one of the busiest men in TV and film at the moment. So when his name popped up on the front cover of our first book title ‘Lynch’s Road’ many people wanted to know how we managed to get him to write a foreword.
Well for those of you that want to know our secret, it’s simple - we didn’t. Luckily for us Noel Clarke sent the foreword to the actual author after reading the final draft. Surprised, well so was we.
Unbeknown to the team at Smash and Grab at the time of acquiring the ‘Lynch’s Road’ manuscript, D.D. Armstrong was an old friend of Noel Clarke and worked as a consultant on the film ‘Adulthood’ (he also has a small walk on role in the prison scenes).
It was only after a general meeting when we asked D.D. to put together a list of his credentials to create a biography that we came aware of the fact. D.D. informed us that he and Noel had been friends for many years and Noel having already read early drafts of the book had previously offered to write a foreword.
A few weeks after sending the final version to the West London director, we received an email with an attached foreword and all the best wishes supporting D.D. Armstrong and the team at Smash & Grab. In the three page foreword Noel Clarke details the friendship between himself and D.D. and describes the encouragement the writer showed his own career. He highlights the struggles and responsibility he has in helping upcoming talent and finally hails ‘Lynch’s Road’ as possibly being ‘one of the most important pieces of writing in Black British Literature.’
